Biographical Information[edit]

Mitch Neunborn has pitched for the Australian national team, as well as professionally in the Minor Leagues and the Australian Baseball League.

He hit .331/.435/.662 and was 1-1 with a 3.18 ERA in junior college in the US. [1] He was 0-1 with a 1.86 ERA for the Perth Heat in the 2019-2020 Australian Baseball League. Moving to the Adelaide Giants, he improved to 3-2, 1.79 with 29 K and only 12 hits in 25 2/3 IP in 2020-2021.

After the 2021-2022 ABL was canceled due to COVID-19, he was moved to the bullpen in 2022-2023 and again pitched well (3-0, Sv, 2.25, 40 K in 28 IP, 15 H), though he walked 17. He came up big in Game 2 of the finals as Adelaide beat the Perth Heat on their way to a title. He signed with Les Capitales de Québec for 2023. [2]

Making the Australian roster for the 2023 World Baseball Classic, he came up big in their opening upset of South Korea. Relieving Jack O'Loughlin in the third of a scoreless game, he struck out Jeong Choi then got Eui-ji Yang and Sung-bum Na to fly out. After his team spotted him a run, he went 1-2-3 in the 4th against Tommy Edman (K), Ha-seong Kim and Jung-hoo Lee. It was 2-0 going into the 5th, which he began by retiring Byung-ho Park. After retiring his first seven batters, he flagged, walking Hyun-soo Kim and Kun-woo Park. Daniel McGrath relieved and allowed a three-run homer to cost Neunborn the win, but his team rallied for a 8-7 victory. [3]

Following his strong WBC showing, Neunborn signed with the Philadelphia Phillies of Major League Baseball on June 5, 2023. He was immediately assigned to the FCL Phillies, but was reassigned to the Jersey Shore BlueClaws of the High-A South Atlantic League the following day. He made his affiliated debut on June 8, pitching a clean inning to earn the win.
