Biographical Information[edit]

Mike Hurdle hit .320/.452/.520 with 8 runs in 8 games for Team USA when they won Silver in the 1978 Amateur World Series. He had ten putouts and no errors in left field; the team's other left fielder was Terry Francona, who split time between left and DH. Hurdle tied Mike Codiroli for 3rd on the US in runs, behind Tim Wallach and Ed Irvine. After setting the Texas A&M career record for triples, the Toronto Blue Jays took him in the 13th round of the 1980 amateur draft, one pick after Rick Ownbey. He split the summer between the Utica Blue Jays (.319/.381/.558, 6 HR, 26 RBI in 33 G) and Knoxville Blue Jays (.264/.328/.283 in 15 G). Had he qualified, he would have been 3rd in the New York-Penn League in average. He fell to .196/.303/.279 for the 1981 Florence Blue Jays though he did go 8-for-9 in steal attempts. That ended his pro career.
