Michael Holoka

Mike Holoka had a long career as a minor league umpire, then was called upon as a replacement umpire when the regular major league umpires went on strike in 1991 and 1995.

He began working in the New York-Penn League in 1975 and 1976, moved to the Western Carolinas League in 1977, the Carolina League in 1978, the Southern League from 1978 to 1980, and the International League from 1981 to 1985. In 1991, he was called in by the National League to assist on opening day at Shea Stadium when the regular umpires only resolved a labor dispute at the very end of spring training, too late to have them show up on time for the first regular season games of the year. In 1995, he worked 6 games when the umpires had another work stoppage.
