Biographical Information[edit]
Catcher Mike Heydon played seven seasons in the big leagues. During his minor league career he spent several seasons at Indianapolis.
His obituary stated that he died from "curvature of the spine" caused by a baseball injury.
"Heydon has been hitting the ball very hard this past season and helped win many games for his club by his hard hitting. As a catcher he is certainly a star, and those already in the big League who try and steal a base on Heydon must be sprinters, getting off quickly, as Heydon throws like a ball thrown from a cannon, as straight as a die. Very few succeeded in stealing bases this season in the Atlantic League on Heydon." - Sporting Life, Sept. 24, 1898
