Biographical Information[edit]
Mike Florak was a college coach.
Out of high school, Florak was taken in the 30th round of the 1985 amateur draft by the Seattle Mariners. He did not sign and went on to play at Ohio University. In 1989, he was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease; he would undergo eight surgeries for the illness and have his large intestine removed in 1996.
In 1997-1998, Florak coached Waynesburg University. He then was head coach of Youngstown State University from 1999-2007, winning the 2004 Horizon League title. In 2005, he wrote "Healthier Than Normal". He resigned from baseball coaching in 2007 to raise awareness about Crohn's and teach communications at the college level.
