Biographical Information[edit]
In 2024, pitcher Mike Baumann tied the record set by Oliver Drake in 2018 by playing for five different teams during the season. In order, these were the Baltimore Orioles, Seattle Mariners, San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Angels and Miami Marlins. Overall, he went 3-1, 5.55 in 57 games and struck out 58 batters in 58 1/3 innings. He pitched at least 10 games for four of the five teams, the exception being the Giants for whom he made a single outing. The Marlins then released him in December of that year.
Before that unusual season, Baumann had only pitched for the Orioles, who had drafted him in the 3rd round of the 2017 amateur draft. He first came up to the majors in September of 2021 and had a very good season as a reliever in 2023, going 10-1, 3.76 in 60 games. He started off 2024 well enough for the O's, putting up an ERA of 3.44 in 17 games before he was traded to the Mariners with Michael Perez in return for Blake Hunt on May 22nd. However, his ERA with Seattle was 5.51 in 18 games, which started a treadmill of moves as he was unable to regain his previous form in spite of still showing good stuff.
