Biographical Information[edit]
Mickey Harrington was an outstanding baseball and basketball player in high school and was a four-year starter in basketball at Mississippi Southern College. He was drafted into the army after graduating and served until 1957. He was courted by various professional basketball teams but chose baseball instead. He signed with the Philadelphia Phillies and appeared with them in one game as a pinch-runner on June 10, 1963.
He retired from baseball in 1964 and returned to his alma mater, which had in the interim been renamed the "University of Southern Mississippi" and served as an assistant basketball and baseball coach there. He then took over the responsibility for intramural sports at the institution, helped to build its equestrian center, and began competing in senior cycling and triathlon competitions. He retired in 1996 and passed away in his hometown in 2017 at the age of 83.
