Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Michel Báez reached the major leagues during the 2019 season with the San Diego Padres, going 1-1, 3.03 in 24 games. He then pitched 3 times for the Padres during the pandemic-shortened 2020, season, for a total of 4 2/3 innings, spending the bulk of the season at the team's alternate training site. He was added to the postseason roster but did not appear in any of the games. An elbow injury then forced him to miss all of 2021. He was beginning his comeback in 2022, having started the year in Class A with the Lake Elsinore Storm, when in his first appearance in AA for the San Antonio Missions on May 18th, he was part of a historical feat. That day, he pitched 2 innings as part of a combined no-hitter against the Midland RockHounds. The historical bit was that on May 15th, four other San Antonio hurlers had also banded together to pitch a no-hitter.

Báez defected from Cuba following the 2014-2015 Cuban National League season. He began his professional career in 2017, splitting the year between the AZL Padres and Fort Wayne TinCaps.
