Biographical Information[edit]

Michal Kočí played for the Czech national team several times. He allowed one run in two innings in the 2001 European Championship and was 0 for 1 at the plate with a walk and a run. During the 2002 World University Championship, he went 2 for 16 as the Czech first baseman; on the mound, he was 0-1, allowing six runs in six innings.

In the 2003 European Championship, Michal starred, going 1-0 with no runs allowed in 7 2/3 innings. At the plate, he hit .286/.400/.286. During the Extraliga that year, he batted .333/.418/.419 with 27 runs and 24 RBI in 30 games. He was 1-3 with a 3.13 ERA. He was 7th in the league in hits (39), tied for 8th with 2 homers, 7th in RBI and tied for 8th in runs.

During the 2004 Extraliga, Kočí slipped to .252/.375/.280 at the plate but went 6-4 with a save and a 1.41 ERA. He tied for 7th in the circuit in walks (18), tied for second in complete games (5), tied for second in wins, was second in innings (70), was 8th in ERA and 6th in strikeouts (48).

In the 2005 season, the Technika Brno left-hander batted .328/.447/.385 with 34 runs in 33 games; he was 4-6 with two saves and a 4.25 ERA on the hill. He tied Petr Čech for 8th in hits (40), tied for 8th in walks (21), tied for third in runs and tied for third in saves. He hit only .095/.208/.095 as the main Czech 1B in the 2005 European Championship but went 4-for-5 in steals, played error-free defense (60 PO, 4 A) and tossed four shutout innings to boot. He tied Javier Zabalza and Juan Garcia for 2nd in the event in swipes, one behind Sébastien Hervé. In the 2005 Baseball World Cup, he was the best player in the Czech Baseball World Cup debut. He was 1 for 7 at the plate but had six walks for an OBP over .500. On the mound, he allowed one run in five innings.

Kočí slumped to .202/.415/.213 in 2006 but pitched well (4-3, 1.57). He tied for second in the Extraliga in walks (23) and was 10th in ERA. The veteran saw limited action in 2007, batting .244/.354/.341 and losing his only decision.

In the 2008 Extraliga, Michal had a 5-3, 3.07 record for Technika Brno. He hit .270/.407/.400 and was among the leaders in doubles (9, tied for 4th) and walks (19, 5th).
