Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder/second baseman Michael Woods was taken by the Oakland Athletics in the 31st round of the 1998 amateur draft, but opted not to sign. After a successful year at Southern University, he was taken as the 32nd pick in the 2001 amateur draft by the Detroit Tigers.

In his final year at Southern, Woods, hit .453/.526/.918 with 14 home runs, 27 doubles and 32 stolen bases in 47 games. In his first year of pro ball, he hit .270/.393/.360 with no home runs, 20 RBI and 18 steals in 53 games between the Oneonta Tigers and West Michigan Whitecaps. Though he reached double digits in stolen bases the next two campaigns, he mostly struggled for the duration of his time in the Tigers system, which lasted through 2005.

After not playing in 2006, Woods joined the independent ranks. He had 11 home runs and 13 steals for the Lancaster Barnstormers in 2007 and hit .324/.422/.549 with 23 home runs and 33 stolen bases for the same club in 2008. He had 12 home runs and 18 stolen bases in 2009 before struggling in 2010 to wrap up his career.
