Michael Haupert

Michael J. Haupert is a baseball researcher specialized in the study of the economic history of baseball.

Born in 1961, he has created a database with the salary of 7,000 player seasons from 1915 to 1969, which is now used by Baseball-Reference.com. He has also researched player contract records, and has extended beyond organized baseball into salary records of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, the Negro Leagues, and earlier records.

He has published dozens of articles on the business of baseball, and was the co-author of a major book on baseball in the 1920s. The data he has compiled has been instrumental to research conducted by others. In 2020, he was named a recipient of the Henry Chadwick Award.

He is a professor of Economics at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
