Biographical Information[edit]
Merle Anthony was a second baseman for the 1948 Pawtucket Slaters, hitting .184/?/.237 in 12 games. In 1949, he moved down to the Eau Claire Bears as a shortstop, playing 20 games and hitting .214/?/.257 before being released on April 29th.
Anthony was an umpire in the California League in 1960-1961 and the Pacific Coast League from 1962 to 1969. He was then an American League umpire from 1969 to 1975. Anthony worked the 1973 ALCS and the 1974 All-Star Game.
