Biographical Information[edit]
Mendy López was the MVP of the 2006 Mexican League after hitting .363/.479/.683 for the Monterrey Sultans, with 92 runs, 30 HR, 94 RBI and 79 walks for the top team of the regular season. In both 2008 and 2011, he won the Home Run Derby before the Mexican League All-Star Game.
López hit .346/.346/.385 for the Águilas Cibaeñas in the 2008 Caribbean Series and made the Series All-Star team at first base.
López was manager of the DSL Pirates in 2015-2016. He was the Latin American Field Coordinator for the Pittsburgh Pirates from 2017 to 2021, then came stateside as hitting coach of the Bradenton Marauders in 2022. In 2023, he was named infield coach with the major league team.
