Biographical Information[edit]
Melquiades Silva debuted in Puerto Rico's top amateur league in 1946. He was on the Puerto Rican national team in the 1950 Amateur World Series then was on their team that won the 1951 Amateur World Series for their only title in a worldwide baseball event (through 2023). He began as the starter but was injured and replaced by Ismael Guasp. He was inducted into the Puerto Rican amateur baseball Hall of Fame in 1984.
