Biographical Information[edit]
Ismael Guasp has played in the minors and for the Puerto Rican national team.
Guasp was a top amateur catcher in Puerto Rico in the 1940s and 1950s. He was the backup to Melquiades Silva for Puerto Rico when the 1951 Amateur World Series opened; when Silva got hurt, Guasp filled in admirably. He was 6 for 18 in the first round and kept it up in the final round to help Puerto Rico win its only world title in baseball (through 2018). He had a brief pro career in the US, hitting .251/.317/.314 and fielded .973 for the Sherman-Denison Twins. He is a member of the Puerto Rican amateur Hall of Fame.
