This form is only for uploading work found from a United States federal government source. To upload work created by someone else, please use a different form. A work by the US federal government is in the public domain. This does not include the state governments. They have their own laws about this. Images on government or government agency websites are not necessarily public domain; always look for copyright notices.

Uploading your image

Step 1. Choose an appropriate filename.

Change the destination filename to something descriptive. Don't use default filenames! Good: John Doe in 1997.jpg    Bad: IMG0592.JPG

Step 2. Pick an appropriate entry from the licence selector.

Select the entry in the licence selector that is appropriate to this image.

Step 3. Supply a description.

Write a clear description for the image you are uploading in the "edit summary" box. Insert some categories that describe the content shown in the work. Also, when uploading a government work, always link to the source webpage or explain how you found and identified the work. If works cannot be confirmed as created by the government, they will likely be deleted. Be sure to upload the original, high-resolution version of the file.
