McAllen Packers

From BR Bullpen

The McAllen Packers were members of the Texas Valley League in its final incarnation in 1938. The team went 65-72 and finished 5th of six teams. The club boasted two players who tied for the league home run lead - OF Leo Najo (.357/~.497/.621) hit 20 homers, was third with 90 walks and 4th in average, while fellow OF Kirby Jordan clubbed 20 long balls while batting .309/~.385/.509. The team's lone All-Star was C Wally Kopp, who hit .334/~.392/.469. McAllen led the league with 119 homers but their 945 runs (6.9 per game) were just fourth in the high-offense league. Clyde Chisum (13-12, 3.22) had the third-best ERA in the Texas Valley League that year. The TVL died off after a one-year run and the Packers went the way of the circuit itself.
