Biographical Information[edit]
Max Ott is widely considered the father of Italian baseball.
Ott was born in Italy, moved to the USA at a young age then returned to Italy in 1919. After working as a journalist during World War II, he helped get baseball going after the War. He organized the Italian Baseball League, with its first game coming in 1948 in front of 3,000 fans. He later helped start the Italian Baseball Federation and was the first technical director for the Italian national team. In 2005, he was named to the initial class of the Italian Baseball Hall of Fame.
