The Maud Chiefs were the only professional baseball team in the history of Maud, OK. In 1929, the Muskogee Chiefs moved to the city for the second half of the Western Association season after a 29-41 first half. Maud went 32-48 in the second half, the worst record in the six-team league, and the club returned to Muskogee in 1930. After one game in Maud drew poorly, it was decided to play home games in Independence or Joplin when those teams were on the road. The big name on the club was 1B Rip Radcliff, who hit .359/~.382/.531 and finished third in the Association in batting average.
