Biographical Information[edit]
Matt Riser has been a college coach.
Riser hit .401 as a high school sophomore, .352 as a junior and .415 as a senior, making All-State the last year. He was also All-District as a football wide receiver/defensive back. He played in junior college, hitting .347 with a .442 OBP as a freshman and .376 with a .475 OBP as a sophomore. He batted .260 for the 2004 North Adams SteepleCats. He was 2 for 5 with two walks and three runs as a junior at Tulane, as a defensive substitute in the outfield for a team that went to the 2005 College World Series. He hit .262/.359/.406 with 47 runs in 64 games as a senior, fielding .991. He was assistant coach at Southeastern Louisiana University from 2008-2013 then became head coach in 2014 at age 29. After being fired from SLU following a 322-224 all time record where he led the Lions to 4 regional births and their most successful stretch to date, he was promptly hired as the head coach at the University of Memphis for the 2023-2024 season.
