Biographical Information[edit]

Matt McCarthy pitched in 15 games for the Provo Angels of the Pioneer League in the summer of 2002. He compiled a record of 0-1 with a 6.92 ERA, with a .357 opponent average and WHIP over 2. He had been picked in the 21st round of the 2002 amateur draft by the Anaheim Angels but was released the following spring. His experiences became the basis for his book Odd Man Out: A Year on the Mound with a Minor League Misfit (ISBN 9780670020706), published in 2009.

Following his baseball career, McCarthy attended Harvard University Medical School, and as of 2009 was a first year medical resident in New York City.
