Biographical Information[edit]

Matt LaBranche has been a college coach.

LaBranche hit .385 as a college senior; he was a catcher in college. In 2000, he was appointed as head coach of Western New England College. He was 19-17 his first year and 21-15 his second, taking the team to its first NCAA Tournament. He was named Great Northeast Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. In 2002, Western New England improved to 29-12 to set a school record for wins in a season. After falling to 22-18 in 2003, his team rebounded to 33-14 and another record for wins in 2004. He again was named GNAC Coach of the Year. Matt had his team at 31-8 in 2005 then 35-12 in 2006. He not only set his third different record for wins in a season, but also became the school's all-time leader for wins when he got #189. The school was 28-12 in 2007.

LaBranche's team was 33-13 in 2008, 30-17 in 2009 and 34-12 in 2010 to drive his career record to 315-150. After a 41-9 start and another record for wins in 2011, his team made it to the 2011 Division III College World Series. He was 429-187 after 14 years when he moved up to Eastern Connecticut State University. He was 124-77 in six years there then became athletic director at Western New England University. LaBranche then returned to coaching with John Jay College in 2023.
