Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Matt Hoffman began his professional career in 2008. He was taken by the Detroit Tigers in the 26th round of the 2007 amateur draft. He was signed by scout Steve Taylor.

He reached Triple-A for the first time in 2010, posting a 10.38 ERA in three relief appearances for the Toledo Mud Hens. He had a 5.20 mark in 45 games on the year as a whole. In his next trial at Triple-A in 2011, his ERA was 3.18 in 49 games. The next year, his Triple-A mark was 3.69 in 43 games. MLB.com ranked him the Tigers #14 prospect entering 2013 and he did not disappoint, posting a 2.06 ERA in 35 games for Toledo, while averaging a strikeout per inning. He pitched in the Philadelphia Phillies and Minnesota Twins systems in 2014 and posted a 3.91 ERA in 17 Triple-A games. He was signed by the Boston Red Sox prior to the 2015 season, but was released before the campaign began.
