Biographical Information[edit]

Masaya Yano has played in Nippon Pro Baseball.

Yano was drafted by the Hiroshima Carp in the 6th round of the 2020 NPB draft; the scout was Tomofumi Matsumoto. He stayed in the NPB Farm Leagues in 2021 as he only got 6 at-bats with the big club, and he hit .194/.280/.284 in 55 games in 2022. Yano played 93 games in 2023, but he struggled again as his batting line was .185/.269/.202 with 7 steals. He broke out in 2024, and he took the starting shortstop spot from Kaito Kozono. On September 22, he forced Hideaki Wakui to use 22 balls in an at-bat and drew a walk; that broke the NPB record. He ended up hitting .260/.322/.333 in 137 games, and he led the Central League with 6 triples.
