Biographical Information[edit]
Masataka Iryo has played in Nippon Pro Baseball and for the Japanese national team.
Iryo played in the industrial leagues after high school. He hit .267/.294/.467 with 4 runs in 5 games for Japan in the 2014 Asian Games, when they won Bronze; he split right with Toshiyuki Hayashi and played DH the other games. The Chunichi Dragons took him in the 6th round of the 2014 NPB draft. He debuted as a pinch-hitter for Shinji Tajima and was retired by Daiki Enokida; he finished 2015 0-for-7 in NPB, spending most of the year in the minors. He hit .194/.194/.323 in 13 games in 2016, getting his first NPB hit off Hiroyuki Yamanaka. He batted .219/.265/.291 in 34 plate appearances over 22 games in 2017. After a full year in the minors, he was back in NPB in 2019.
