Biographical Information[edit]
Masashi Matsuoka represented Japan in the 2006 Intercontinental Cup. He led the tournament with 3 saves, one ahead of Pedro Luis Lazo, Po-Hsuan Keng and Dave Draijer, even as his team did not get a medal. He began by saving Shota Oba's opening win over Australia, retiring Thomas Brice, Brendan Kingman and Ben Risinger in order, two of them by K. He next saved Takayoshi Masuda's 3-0 win over the Netherlands, walking one and whiffing one. He had a perfect inning in saving Kentaro Takasaki's win over Italy, getting Juan Pablo Angrisano, Lorenzo Avagnina and Anthony Caracciolo, again with one strikeout. The only hit he gave up came late in Japan's 4-0 loss to Taiwan in the Bronze Medal Game, when he served up a dinger. It was also the only run off him in 4 1/3 IP for the Cup. He played for Honda Suzuka in the Industrial League.
In the 2007 Baseball World Cup, he went 1-2-3 against both Mexico and Italy but in between gave up 3 runs in 1/3 IP against Taiwan.
