Biographical Information[edit]

Masakimi Araki was known for his powerful fastball and joined Hankyu in 1939; the Yomiuri Giants and Osaka Tigers had also been interested. Araki went 9-2 with a 1.72 ERA as a rookie. He had pitched enough innings to qualify, he would have been third in the Japan Baseball League in ERA, behind Tadashi Wakabayashi and Satoshi Takahashi.

In 1940, he was drafted into the Japanese military and he later died of disease along the Soviet-Manchuria border, his promising career cut short.
