Biographical Information[edit]
Masaaki Esaka pitched in NPB and the TML.
Esaka was drafted by the Kintetsu Buffaloes in the second round of the 1991 NPB draft, and he had a 4.68 ERA in 23 appearances in his rookie year. He improved to 8-3 with a 2.75 ERA in 1993, but he slumped to 1-5 with a 5.30 ERA in 1994. Esaka was 2-5 with a 5.09 ERA in 1995, then he only pitched 4 games in 1996. The Buffaloes traded him to the Hanshin Tigers for Makoto Hagiwara after he spent the entire 1997 season in the NPB Farm Leagues, and he allowed 4 runs in 2 innings in 1998. He was released after the 1998 season, and the Taichung Agan signed him in 2000. However, Esaka's ERA was 6.75 in 5 games, then he announced his retirement.
Overall, Esaka was 15-14 with a 4.68 ERA, struck out 183 and pitched 275 innings in 6 years in NPB.
