Biographical Information[edit]

Marvin Wooten was a minor league player. His son John Wooten also played professionally.

The Chicago Cubs picked Wooten in the 29th round of the 1973 amateur draft. He went on to college. Undrafted after college (he was All-Southern Conference at 1B in 1977), he signed with the Kansas City Royals. He hit .238/.341/.381 with 47 RBI in 53 games for the 1977 GCL Royals. He led the Gulf Coast League in RBI (11 more than anyone else) and in doubles (14, 3 ahead of the runner-up) while leading first basemen in putouts. He was mainly a DH for the 1978 Fort Myers Royals, batting .229/.319/.342. He ended his career with a .232/.327/.357 batting line in 156 games. He had 33 doubles, 65 walks, 65 runs and 96 RBI. He fielded .991 in 61 games at 1B and had 10 error-free chances in the outfield.
