Biographical Information

Martin Lavigne pitched six seasons as a pro.

Lavigne pitched for Team Canada in the 1990 Goodwill Games and 1990 Baseball World Cup; in the latter event, he was 0-1 with a team-high 24.75 ERA. Signed by the Los Angeles Dodgers, he was 2-2 with a 2.38 ERA for the 1991 GCL Dodgers. He went 7-6 with a save and a 3.87 ERA for the 1992 Bakersfield Dodgers. In '93, he was 7-8 with a 5.56 ERA. A rotator cuff injury sidelined him and he went to college to pursue a business degree.

He had not hung up his spikes for good. He would return for four seasons with the independent Les Capitales de Québec of his hometown. He was 0-2 with a 4.50 ERA in 3 games in 1999, 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA in two starts in 2000, 1-1 with a 3.79 ERA in seven starts in 2001 and 0-1 with 7 runs in 5 innings in one game in 2002. He finished his pro baseball career at 18-20 with a save and a 4.18 ERA in 63 games (57 starts). In 301 2/3 IP, he had allowed 300 hits and 119 walks while fanning 208.

He was hired by the National Bank of Canada and worked his way into running a division of 300 people by age 38; on the side, he coached Little League Baseball.
