Biographical Information[edit]
Martin Gordon has played for South Africa on the international stage.
Gordon set a record at Desert Vista High School by going 68 straight at-bats without a strikeout; he was second-team All-State for Arizona. As a freshman at Glendale Community College, he hit .349 and stole 24 bases in 27 tries. He won a Rawlings Gold Glove for community college outfielders. In the 2007 Baseball World Cup, he was the main center fielder for the South African national team. He hit .333/.400/.333 to lead South Africa in average. Only Brett Willemburg and Warren Herman (the latter in limited action) had better OPSes for South Africa's club. Gordon handled all 10 chances in center flawlessly in 6 games there; he also played one at DH and a couple innings in left field. In 2008, he hit .324 and went 22-for-26 in steals for Glendale Community College.
For 2008-2009, Gordon transferred to Francis Marion University. He was on the South African roster for the 2009 World Baseball Classic. In the Classic, Gordon was 1 for 7. He scored a run against Cuba when he reached on a fielder's choice in the 9th against Vladimir García, took second on a wild pitch and came home on a Jonathan Phillips single.
