Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Marlan Murphy played in the minor leagues from 1966 to 1975, spending his whole career in the Atlanta Braves system. Though he spent all or part of four seasons at Triple-A, he never reached the major leagues.

He was taken by the club in the 41st round of the 1966 amateur draft and began his professional career with the GCL Braves; he would develop into a low-average hitter with decent pop and speed. By 1968, he had 10 home runs and 11 stolen bases in 111 games for the Greenwood Braves and in 1969 he hit .340 in 29 games for the same club. In 1970, he hit .234/.336/.374, but still managed 10 home runs and 25 stolen bases; he also reached Triple-A for the first time that year, but spent only a couple games there. He hit a career-high 17 home runs in 1971, then matched that high in 1973. In 1972, his lone full season at Triple-A, he hit .233/.310/.364 in 110 games for the Richmond Braves. He played through 1975, reaching Triple-A just once more.

Overall, Murphy hit .243/.331/.408 with 88 home runs, 343 stolen bases and 73 stolen bases in 839 games over 10 seasons. At Triple-A, he hit .235/.317/.362 with 11 home runs, 59 RBI and 3 stolen bases in 188 games.
