Biographical Information[edit]

Catcher Mark Strittmatter spent a nine-year career in the minor leagues, with only a cup of coffee in the majors in September 1998. He was selected by the Colorado Rockies in the 1992 amateur draft and ended his playing career in 2000 with a .246 career batting average.

From 2003 to 2010, he was the Rockies' bullpen catcher. In 2011, he moved to the Pittsburgh Pirates, where he rejoined Clint Hurdle, who had been his boss while manager of the Rockies. Hurdle named him the Bucs' bullpen coach. In 2012 he returned to the Pirates staff as the pitchers hitting coach in addition to other duties.
