Biographical Information[edit]
The son of big leaguer Paul Pettit, infielder Mark Pettit was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the fifth round of the 1971 amateur draft. He played two seasons in their organization. In 1971, he went 8 for 44 with 8 walks, 2 steals, a triple and a homer for the Aberdeen Pheasants. He split 1972 between the Lewiston Broncs (.255/.383/.362 in 28 G) and Lodi Orions (.285/.398/.342 in 79 G). Defense was a major issue, as he fielded .826 at third base, .824 at short and .904 at second in his minor league career.
