Biographical Information[edit]
Mark Ekeland was a college coach for many years.
He was a state champion in basketball in high school and played baseball and football in college, graduating in 1973. He immediately went into coaching high school in Nebraska, coaching basketball and football.
Ekeland was head baseball coach at Jamestown College from 1979-1983, going 48-85, and also was assistant football and men's basketball and head coach for women's basketball. He then was 573-381-2 at South Dakota State University from 1984-2003. He took the team to the 1984 Division II College World Series, their only trip to the Division II College World Series. He set a school record for wins in 1993 and 1994 with 39, going 39-10-1 the latter year. He won North Central Conference Coach of the Year five times. He set the South Dakota State record for wins.
