"WINTER BASE BALL... The third of the California League series was contested at Recreation Park, Jan. 13 by the Haverly and Occidental clubs. The diamond was in fair condition, and the game proceeded, after its commencement, with a display of close fielding on both sides. Gagus (sic) of the Haverly Club, pitched strongly throughout and was ably assisted behind the bat by Creegan." - Sporting Life, January 30, 1884
