Biographical Information[edit]

Once touted as the replacement for Dennis Eckersley as Oakland A's closer, success eluded Mark Acre in parts of four big league seasons by the bay. After a 3.41 ERA (but 23 walks to 21 strikeouts) as a rookie in 1994, he was bandied about as Eck's successor yet unable to get his walks to a more palatable total, seeing his last action in the first chunk of the 1997 season. He primarily wore number 55.
