Mario Véliz Acevedo

Mario Véliz pitched for 11 seasons in Cuba.

Véliz threw a no-hitter for Villa Clara against the Citricultores on December 30, 1982. He went 1-0 with a 6.24 ERA for the Cuban national team in the 1983 Intercontinental Cup and 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in the 1983 Pan American Games. Cuba won both events. Pitching for La Habana in 1987-1988, he led the Cuban Serie Nacional with 11 wins. In 1988-1989, he led in innings (100 1/3) and tied Jorge L. Valdés for the win lead with 11 once more.

Overall, Mario went 113-66 with 11 saves and a 3.58 ERA in 265 games (203 starts). Through 2004, he was 41st in modern (post-1962) Cuban history in wins.
