Mario Ruiz played for the Panamanian national team several times.
Ruiz hit .250/.308/.583 with 5 RBI in 12 at-bats in the 1994 Baseball World Cup; splitting 3B with Erick González, he had 5 putouts, 5 assists and no errors. He was with Panama for the 1995 Pan American Games and 1997 Central American Games, winning Gold in the latter event. At the 1998 Baseball World Cup, he started at 3B, fielding .941 and batting .261/.370/.478 with 5 RBI in 7 games.
