Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Marcos Diplan was signed by the Texas Rangers before the 2014 season. He spent his first professional season with the DSL Rangers, and had an excellent debut, going 7-2, 1.54 in 13 starts. In 64 1/3 innings, he allowed only 32 hits but walked 36 and struck out 57. His performance obviously caught the eye of other scouts as on January 19, 2015, he was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers along with IF Luis Sardinas and P Corey Knebel in return for P Yovani Gallardo. It was the first of a number of transactions: on July 31, 2019, he was purchased by the Minnesota Twins from the Brewers but was designated for assignment that September and claimed off waivers by the Detroit Tigers. Before ever suiting up for the Tigers at either the minor or major league level, he was claimed off waivers again, on December 9th, by the Baltimore Orioles.
After sitting out the 2020 season as the minor leagues were closed down by the Coronavirus pandemic, he was on the roster of the Dominican Republic national team in the 2020 Final Olympic Qualification Tournament in June 2021. He was then named to the American League team for the 2021 Futures Game, slightly less than a month before making his major league debut with the Orioles on August 6, 2021. He was then used extensively by the Orioles in the last two months of the season, making 23 appearances and going 2-0, 4.50 while pitching 30 innings. It may not sound like much, but he was one of the few effective relievers on a teams whose bullpen gave up runs by the bushel-load.
