Biographical Information[edit]

Makoto Takada played in Nippon Pro Baseball.

Takada represented Japan in the 1986 Amateur World Series. The Yomiuri Giants drafted him in the third round of the 1986 NPB draft.[1] Since Giants had all-star catcher Kazuhiro Yamakura, Takada spent the first three years of his career in the NPB Farm Leagues. The Giants then traded him to the Orix Blue Wave for Hiromasa Fujita after the 1991 season. Takada was the backup of Satoshi Nakajima in 1992 and recorded a .273/.331/.348 batting line. The Tokyo native took the starting catcher spot from Nakajima in 1993, and hit .201/.307/.297 with 3 homers.[2] 1994 was Takada's career year. He batted .271/.350/.373 with 3 homers. Nakajima bounced back and was named the starting catcher in 1995, but Takada took the spot back in the next year. He hit .220/.312/.320 and won his only NPB Gold Glove award. In the 1995 Nippon Series, Takada went 2-for-10 and won his only Nippon Series title, beating the Giants.[3] Takada only played 42 games in 1997, and announced his retirement after the 1998 season. Takada was the battery coach for the Giants' minor team from 1999 to 2004, and the Giants promoted him to the big club in 2006. He was also the bullpen coach for the Giants from 2019 to 2018, their manager in 2019, and their scout from 2020 to 2021.

Overall, Takada had hit .233/.313/.319 in 10 seasons in NPB.
