Biographical Information[edit]

Makoto Kito pitched in Nippon Professional Baseball. He played for the Hiroshima Toyo Carp from 1987 to 2000, the Chunichi Dragons from 2001 to 2004 and the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles in 2005. He began his career as a relief pitcher, posting ERAs of 2.78 in a league-leading 61 games in 1989 and 2.58 in 36 games in 1990. He then shifted to the rotation, going 16-5 with a 3.97 mark in 30 games (25 starts) in 1994, 10-9 with a 3.98 ERA in 27 games (25 starts) in 1995 and 12-7, 4.27 in 26 starts in 1996. Overall, he went 78-73 with a 4.07 ERA in 474 games (170 starts) over 19 seasons. In 1,456 1/3 innings, he allowed 1,472 hits and 451 walks, while striking out 1,146 batters.

He was a NPB All-Star in 1996.
