Middle infielder Maikel Cáceres debuted in the Cuban Serie Nacional in 2007-2008. As a rookie, he hit .318/.368/.372 for Holguín and led the Serie Nacional with 16 sacrifice hits. He fielded .959. He saw a reduced role in 2008-2009 at age 25, hitting .250/.335/.301 and fielding .971.

Maikel batted .307/.376/.398 as a regular in 2009-2010. He fielded .952 in a utility role. He led the Serie Nacional that season with nine triples.
