Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Maddux Bruns was taken by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the first round, 29th overall, in the 2021 amateur draft. His signing bonus was $2,197,500. He began his career with the ACL Dodgers in 2021, going 0-2 with a 16.20 ERA in 4 starts; he pitched just 5 innings. In 2022, he was 0-3 with a 5.68 ERA in 21 starts for the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. In 41 innings, he allowed 36 hits and 45 walks (1.827 WHIP), while striking out 67 batters (13.6 K/9 IP).

Maddux made another 26 starts in 2023, 6 with Rancho Cucamonga and 20 with the Great Lakes Loons of the Midwest League, but at the end of the season, he was still looking for his first professional win, having gone 0-7, 4.74. He did not pitch badly, though, as he recorded 126 strikeouts in 97 innings against just 67 hits, but he also allowed 67 walks, leading to more traffic on the bases than one would like, and also to higher pitch counts.
