Biographical Information[edit]

Luke Murton was a minor league player and the brother of major leaguer Matt Murton.

Luke hit .446 and slugged 1.457 as a high school senior. As a college freshman, he hit .339/.433/.503. He was 4 for 7 in the 2006 College World Series. His sophomore year, he fell to .239/.315/.447. The New York Yankees took him in the 40th round of the 2007 amateur draft but he did not sign. As a returning junior, he batted .332/.402/.621. His 25 doubles tied for the third-best total in Georgia Tech history. The Arizona Diamondbacks picked him in the 33rd round of the 2008 amateur draft. He returned to school for his senior year and produced at a .354/.496/.714 rate with 20 homers, 64 runs and 63 RBI in 58 games. He was two homers behind Atlantic Coast Conference leader Dustin Ackley and made the All-ACC outfield. The New York Yankees picked him in the 19th round of the 2009 amateur draft.

Murton hit .295/.374/.477 in his pro debut with the Staten Island Yankees. He led the New York-Penn League's first basemen in putouts (613) and assists (61) while tying Lance Durham for the lead with nine errors. In 2010, Luke batted .282/.361/.463 with 32 doubles for the Charleston RiverDogs.
