Biographical Information[edit]
Luke Lutenberg had a long career in the minors, coming to the majors for part of the 1894 season as the regular first baseman for the 1894 Louisville Colonels, a team which finished in last place.
Lutenberg was a big man at 6 ' 2 " and 225 lbs.
Although he played mostly first base in the majors, he was a pitcher at least some seasons in the minors. The SABR biography of Pacer Smith refers to a no-hitter thrown by Lutenberg.
The Sporting Life from Jan. 25, 1896, called him "the king of the first bag" because of his graceful play the previous year with Toronto, and said he was thinking of retiring because his billiard parlor in Quincy was doing so well.
