Biographical Information[edit]

The brother of Zach Greinke, Luke Greinke played in the minors in 2008. He hit .383 in high school and his fastball was timed at 96 mph.

Greinke hit .286/.347/.321 as a freshman while saving 6 games with a 3.76 ERA. In 2007, the sophomore batted .314/.400/.357 but did not pitch much (2.61 ERA in 10 1/3 IP). He played all 3 outfield positions and first base. In the summer, he was 3-1 with a 2.66 ERA in the Shenandoah Valley League and led the circuit in average (.417), OBP (.517) and slugging (.642). He won MVP honors.

In 2008, Luke hit .257/.349/.514 and was 4-4 with a 4.64 ERA. The New York Yankees chose him in the 12th round of the 2008 amateur draft. They chose to use him as a pitcher. He went 0-6 with a 4.01 ERA in nine starts that season for the Staten Island Yankees.
