Biographical Information[edit]
Luis Reyes played collage ball for two years at Iowa Lakes Community College before moving to Clarke University for his final two years. At Clarke he won a conference Gold Glove at third base as well as being named an all-conference player. In the classroom Reyes earned a bachelor's degree in science in 2014.
After his playing career ended, Reyes moved immediately into coaching. He was an assistant coach at Murray State University from 2015-2017. He had two head coaching gigs during these years as well. In the summer of 2015 Reyes was the head coach for the Myrtle Beach Riptides, a summer collegiate baseball team that played in the Beach League. He led his team to the league championship. In the spring of 2016 he also served as the head coach for Marietta High School and led the team to a district championship.
In July 2017 Reyes moved to Northwestern Oklahoma State University where he served as an assistant coach and Director of Player Development to November 2020. While at Northwestern he earned his master's degree in Education/Sport Management and Administration. Reyes moved to Texas A&M International University in late 2020 as an assistant coach, but only stayed through 2021.
In 2022 the Minnesota Twins hired Reyes to work as a hitting coach for the FCL Twins. He was then assistant hitting coach of the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels in 2023 where he helped Fort Myers’ hitters set the franchise record with 103 home runs while leading the Florida State League in slugging percentage (.388). Reyes also coached first base and guided the Mussels to 173 stolen bases (1.4 SB/G) and an 81% success rate. He returned to Fort Myers in 2024 as their hitting coach.
