Biographical Information

Luis Pérez made his major league debut in 2011.

Pérez was signed by scout Hilario Soriano for the Toronto Blue Jays in 2003. He debuted as a pro in 2004 with the DSL Blue Jays, posting a 1.69 ERA in 5 IP over 6 games. He returned in 2005, going 3-3 with a 4.96 ERA, striking out 68 in 52 2/3 IP. In 2006, Luis was 4-0 with a 1.38 ERA for the DSL Blue Jays. He allowed a .158 average and struck out 107 in 85 innings; he did not allow a homer. He possibly led the league in strikeouts. He was named the Dominican Summer League Player of the Year.

Luis cames stateside with a 3-3 record with a 3.70 ERA for the 2007 Auburn Doubledays. Pérez spent the 2008 season with Lansing Lugnuts of the Midwest League, where he made 28 appearances with 23 starts. He led the Lugnuts in innings pitched (137.1), strikeouts (137), walks (51) and losses (12), going 5-12 with a 3.80 ERA. He led the entire MWL in both losses and balks (7).

Perez made his major league debut with the Toronto Blue Jays in April of 2011. First used as a reliever and making a number of trips between Las Vegas and Toronto, Perez was outstanding in his first major league start on August 21st against the Oakland A's. He was perfect through five innings, then got into a bit of a jam in the 6th after allowing a pair of walks and a single by Jemile Weeks to load the bases, but he forced Coco Crisp to ground into an inning-ending double play to keep the game scoreless. Jose Bautista then led off the top of the 7th with a homer, and reliever Casey Janssen stepped in to add three more hitless innings to give Perez his 3rd win of the year.
