Biographical Information[edit]
Luis Cruz played in the St. Louis Cardinals minor league system from 2011-2017, reaching AAA for two games in 2016. Cruz was a catcher and first baseman who hit .264/.325/.356 during his seven minor league seasons. In 2017 Cruz played only briefly for the Cardinals before spending most of the year with the York Revolution in the independent Atlantic League. He concluded his playing career with the Revolution in 2018.
Two years later Cruz was scheduled to return to the Cardinals as a hitting coach for their DSL Cardinals Red team before COVID-19 shut down the minor league season. He did coach the Red team in 2021 and was then the hitting coach for the DSL Cardinals in 2022-2024.
Cruz gained additional coaching experience in his native Dominican Republic as a catching coach for the Dominican League Gigantes del Cibao during the 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 seasons.
